In English we put articles a/an in front of the names of things that can be counted.
We can count apples, chairs, boys, pens etc.
Note: We put article a/an when the thing is in singular (only one).
For example: an apple(one apple), a chair(one chair).
We don’t use a/an with the things that we cannot count!
We cannot count milk, meat, water, juice, butter, bread, cake etc.
With these words we use some.
For example: some meat, some milk, some bread.
