The verb to be shows where people and things are and what they do.
For example: Books are on the shelf.
He is a pilot.
The verb to be has three form: am, is, are.
We use them this way:
♦ Use I am = I’m when you speak about yourself.
For example: I am a student.
♦ Use You are = you’re when you address your partner.
For example: You are clever.
♦ Use He is = he’s when you speak about a boy or a man.
For example: He is a surgeon.
♦ Use She is = she’s when you speak about a girl or a woman.
For example: She is my grandma.
